In the mid-1950s, the Gronsky family bought the Balboa Pavilion and remodeled it. The family ran a shell museum in the upper levels. The Gronskys donated this collection to the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, California. In 1961, the Gronskys sold the Pavilion to the Ducommun Realty Company of Los Angeles. Edmond G. “Alan” Ducommun bought the building and began to restore it. The Ducommuns added around 1500 lights to the exterior. In the 1960s, the Newport Harbor Art Museum moved into the Balboa Pavilion.

Harborside Restaurant is Newport Beach’s iconic waterfront restaurant. Located in the historic Balboa Pavilion, it serves classic and modern cuisine with stunning views of Newport Harbor. The Harborside Saloon offers the best happy hour in town. In the evening, guests can catch a game on one of five flat-screen televisions, enjoy award-winning menus and enjoy a value-minded California wine selection.

Up until the 1930s, the Balboa Pavilion also offered speed boat rides. During the day, two 35-foot boats would launch with sirens blaring. Newport Harbor became the hub of sport fishing in southern California, and the Balboa Pavilion also operated a sport fishing landing. The ferry also operated a ferry to Corona Del Mar. Afterward, the Balboa Pavilion closed down its speed boats, which were a big attraction.
