NorthBay Healthcare Hack: Major Data Breach Exposes Sensitive Information
In early 2024, NorthBay Healthcare Corporation, a California-based nonprofit operating two hospitals and multiple primary care facilities, experienced a significant data breach. Unauthorized access to their network occurred between January 11 and April 1, 2024, compromising the personal and medical information of approximately 569,012 individuals. The exposed data included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, passport details, financial account information, medical and biometric data, health insurance details, driver’s license numbers, usernames, passwords, and payment card information. Despite detecting suspicious activity on February 23, 2024, NorthBay Health did not begin notifying affected individuals until January 2025, leading to legal investigations and proposed class-action lawsuits concerning the delayed response and potential harm to victims.
