Google AI Mode and AI Overviews: What OC Businesses Should Change in SEO Now

Google AI Mode and AI Overviews do not require a separate set of technical SEO tricks. Google’s guidance keeps the focus on accessible, useful pages. A page must be indexed and eligible to appear with a snippet to qualify as a supporting link. Inclusion is not guaranteed.

Fix access and indexing first

Check that important service pages return the intended content and can be crawled. Review canonical links, indexing directives and internal navigation. A blocked or incorrectly canonicalized page cannot benefit from stronger copy alone.

Use Search Console to investigate technical problems. Test the public mobile experience as well: visitors should quickly understand the service and find a working contact route.

Answer the actual buyer question

Explain who the service helps, what the work includes and what it excludes. Use clear headings and concise answers supported by relevant detail. Cite primary sources when a statement depends on a regulation or product capability.

Publish evidence for credentials and results. Keep business details and service areas accurate. Repeating a city name across interchangeable pages does not create useful local expertise.

Keep structured data honest

Markup should describe content visitors can read. Organization, article and service information should match the page. FAQ questions and answers must remain visible if they are included in FAQ markup.

Google states that no special AI text file or schema is required for its AI search features. Do not treat a new file or plugin score as proof that a page will be cited.

Measure visibility and business outcomes separately

Record the question, date, answer and cited URLs when observing an AI search result. Results can vary, so repeat a consistent set of buyer questions rather than relying on one screenshot.

Track search traffic and qualified enquiries alongside those observations. Search Console aggregates do not prove that every change came from AI features. Assign a lead source only when reliable session or first-party evidence supports it.
